Activity Description
In this engaging educational activity, students will dive into the dynamic world of stock market trading. They will participate in a simulated stock market, where they can actively buy and sell shares of an electric car company over a span of 360 days. Throughout this immersive experience, students will encounter various market events that influence share prices, presenting them with opportunities and challenges. The objective is to maximize profit and compete on a leaderboard based on financial performance.
At the end of the activity, teachers can present the leaderboard, showcasing each student's profit gained from buying and selling shares.
This activity not only introduces students to key concepts in investing and finance but also hones their decision-making skills in a risk-free yet realistic trading environment. It encourages critical thinking, strategy development, and the application of financial knowledge.
Learning Objective
The purpose of this activity is to provide students with hands-on experience in trading shares within a simulated stock market environment. By participating in this simulation, students will learn how to analyze market conditions, respond to news events, and make strategic decisions to maximize their profits.
Each student will start with a virtual amount of $2000. Students will have a designated period during which they can buy and sell shares of a fictitious electric car company. A real-time chart showing the current share price will be available to students. This chart will be updated with positive or negative news events affecting the company. Periodic news events will be introduced, impacting the share price. These events could include product launches, financial reports, regulatory changes, or market trends. Students will make decisions on when to buy or sell shares based on the share price chart and news events, aiming to maximize their profits.
You can display a classroom leaderboard showing the profits made by each student, adding a competitive element to the activity.
